The Gardens of Villa della Pergola are "The Most Beautiful Park in Italy". The competition, now in its 18th edition and promoted by the network of italian Parks and Gardens, which includes about 1000 public and private parks throughout the country, saw for the unified 2020-2022 edition the choice of the historic Gardens of Alassio as the winning Park for the Private Parks category. The Gardens were defined by the jury as a "destination of unparalleled beauty overlooking the water". The "The Most Beautiful Park" Competition boasts the patronage of the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities and Tourism, the Ministry of the Environment, UNESCO, ACI and with the adhesion of FAI (Italian Environmental Fund), and AIAPP (Italian Association of Landscape Architecture). For the selection of the winners, the Scientific Committee assessed the parameters provided for by the Competition regulations: the historical-artistic and botanical interest, the state of conservation, the aspects connected with management and maintenance, accessibility, presence services, relations with the public and tourism promotion. The news comes at a time when the gardens of Villa della Pergola host the flourishing of the most important Italian collection of Wisteria, which has been enjoying enormous success with visitors since the day of its reopening to the public.
